Running to Lose Weight will change your life
If you're reading this page I'm guessing it because you're considering running to lose weight. And if so.... I have to admit that if you want to run to lose weight it's actually just one of the many reasons I'd recommend you take up running. But don't be surprised if your reason for running eventually lands up having nothing to do with trying to lose weight at all. But first let me share a little story with you about how I went from zero to running a marathon in under a year. Ok, so if you knew me when I was younger, you'd have known I was a COMPLETE and utter couch potato. But then I met this marathon-running-fitness-freak - at least that was what I considered him to be back then - who did (and still does) a daily set of exercises and come rain, snow or shine runs most days of the week. And no, running to lose weight isn't his bent - he truly does it because he loves to run. Go figure! That kinda stumped me. I couldn't quite wrap my head around anyone who didn't run to lose weight but just did it for the JOY of it. Back then, in 1985, I thought he must be kidding. The only time I could imagine running was if a not so tame tiger or a mad mugger was chasing me. Honestly, I just thought the man was not well in his head - I mean, back then, even going for a walk was something to be avoided.
Run to lose weight but after a while....But then something happened that would forever change my attitude toward fitness. We were still dating when he asked me if I'd drop him off at the start of an ultra marathon (yes - the nutcase doesn't only run standard marathons). Why sure, I'd just be delighted to leave my toasty warm bed and get up before the sun has even peeked it's head over the horizon to see a bunch of definitely not normal people who run because they surely must have nothing else to do! Well - have you ever been to at the start of a marathon? You haven't???? Well you HAVE to... and I'm not kidding. There is an excited vibe in the air that's so motivational and inspirational that you pretty much want to break down the door of a running shop to buy a pair of running shoes. I kid you not. I was so blown away by all the fit and healthy bodies that I instantly wanted to take up running to lose weight - but mostly I just wanted to be surrounded by the incredible vibe I felt. I went out and bought my first pair of Brooks running shoes, and very soon I started walking, then got running and lost weight! I honestly started the very day after the marathon and I discovered a whole new running world out there. I followed a great program that helped me build up to running a marathon, and at first I told myself I was running to lose weight, but as I got progressively fitter I realized I was starting to run because I genuinely was enjoying it. Bloomin amazing - but true. And the benefits were fabulous - my body felt tauter, tighter and more toned. I started to get some definition in my legs, my cellulite disappeared and soon I was fitting into a size clothes I never had before. I joined a running club and soon running to lose weight was just a foreign idea - now I was running to be with new-found friends and to enjoy being out of doors and out in nature. And less than a year after I started to run to lose weight - I ran my first marathon and running to lose weight had disappeared from my thinking. But along the way I met other people who like me had also started off running to lose weight before they realized the bug had bitten them. So it wasn't uncommon to hear stories like this one: "I had read an article somewhere that running was the best way to lose weight. I have been exercising for many many years, but was never a runner. I decided to give running a try. After I started running, I started to see results within the first few weeks itself. This kept me encouraged and I went on to run 2 half-marathons in my first year. The next year, I ran a marathon. It was an amazing experience." You need a program that will take you through a a step-step plan every week with exercises to do each week. Any good program need to educates you in a systematic manner and build up your running base gradually. I loved my running program which helped me: keep a running journal run my first 5k race - you'd have sworn I'd won the New York marathon I was so proud of myself :) build up from there to run my first full marathon within a year. I loved that I had zero experience of running but that my program helped me start with walking and jogging until I gradually built up my fitness. I really like gradual because it helps you not only with preventing injuries but it also makes it mentally easier to achieve.
Am I too fat or too old to run?And if you're worried that you might be too fat or too old to run, so long as you've had yourself checked out by your doctor, you shouldn't have any need for concern because.... No one is too fat or too old. Once you start your program, you will discover many people who are either older or heavier than you just going along at their own pace following their own programs. So can you. You will emerge a fitter and healthier runner and a happy winner. Return from Running to Lose Weight to Homepage
