The Obesity Paradox

The
obesity paradox
of our time in history is that we have more ‘slimming’ products, but more obesity and
eating disorders
than ever before.
We have wider girths, yet
narrower viewpoints about beauty
and health.
We have more
low-fat, no fat, low sugar, no sugar products
, but less control over our waistlines.
The food paradox is that we have vastly more food choices, but take less time to savour and enjoy our food.
We have rising levels of nutritional 'knowledge' yet smaller levels
body wisdom.
We have more
food lies,
more food phobias,
more food obsessions
and food cravings.
We have more fitness education but less common sense.
We have more
quick fixes
, yet less time to be
joy-filled.

The diet paradox is that we have more weight experts, yet more
weight problems.
We have more diet pills, powders and potions, but
less wellness.
We drink too many calories, yet not enough water.
We comfort eat
and yet feel more agitated. We laugh too little and please others too much. The slimming paradox is that we have multiplied our dieting attempts, but
reduced valueing our Sacred selves.
These are the days of
one plan, one size fits all,
but more plans and more sizes, especially those supposed
ideal sizes
than ever before.
The obesity paradox is that these are the days of huge weight loss, but even more
weight regain.
We go through the frantic motions of rushing life, and spend less time acutally living. Basically we've added years to life not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the bridge to find our
kinder selves.
We strive to reach outer space but seldom take the time to get in touch with our inner space.
We’ve learnt to gloss over everything except our
size prejudices.
big-diet promises
and yet fewer results, steep profits for diet companies and
shallow relationships with our inner beauty.
These are the days overweight bodies, and eating that does everything from
cheer,
to soothe,to over-fill.
These are the days of
before and after photo's
but no after-after photos.
The obesity paradox is why I believe so firmly in
The Mind over Fatter Programme
and The Joy-Filled Body.

ALWAYS REMEMBER: Living in a joy-filled body isn’t measured by the number on a scale or the size of our hips or thighs, but by the shape of our hearts and size of our spirit.
