Great Books on Cari's Recommended Reading LIst
What do I define as great books? Those that have contributed to my personal growth. Those that have been written by authors who I'm happy to put on a recommended reading list because I believe that their message is powerfully life-changing and affirming.
Books have helped me grow personally. Through the ideas they've helped me glean I've been able to see the world through different eyes. I've been able to recognize that far more important than the size of my breasts, tummy or thighs is the size of my heart and the depth of my spirit. Once I recognized this, I was released from buying into social beliefs that would have me believe that I am deserving of anything less than being loved, respected and worthy no matter my body size or shape. I want this for each of you because, without exception, we are all Sacred Beings.
A WORD OF CAUTION
Please note, none of the books on my recommended reading list are religious, they are books (many which have a spiritual leaning) that I believe can benefit anyone of whatever their personal religious persuasion.
Does that mean that you will agree with everything in the books I'm suggesting? Heck no! But I've found that even reading books I totally disagree with with open-mindedness, and curiousity about what I might discover, have been a valuable experiences.
So, take what you find valuable and powerful and disregard whatever you don't agree with - that's what I do.
CHOOSING FROM THESE GREAT BOOKS
What I am going to do is to give you some general ideas about what I know about the author - click on some of the ones whose titles or covers seem most to 'speak to you'. When I choose books I really like to let my intuition guide me because it's seldom wrong about picking out just the book I need right at that time.
The books I mention first by each author are my own personal favorites. it doesn't necessarily mean they'll be yours!
But...but... many of these books don't have ANYTHING to do
And yes in some ways you'd be totally right about that but from another perspective these books I'm going to share with you also have EVEYRTHING to do with you and your body. Here's why I say that.
I read every weight loss article, every magazine article and every bit of info I could on losing weight and all they helped me do was yo-yo. My permanent change came not from books necessarily related directly to shrinking my body, but from those books that helped me expand as a person.
For me it worked like this: When I grew personally and found a meaningful spiritual path and really 'got' that I (like every other human) is a Sacred Being, some switch inside me went on and this is what it did for me.
From eating salads because I felt I HAD to because I was on diet, I suddenly was able to eat salads because I loved myself enough to make healthy choices for the vehicle that my Creator had given me with which to experience this life.
When I operated from 'haftas' I had to rely on willpower which I apparently didn't ever have enough of. But when I operated from self-love and from 'wanna' - wow, then it became a breeze.
And don't worry, keep checking back, I will also be sharing with you plenty books on food and eating and exercising and body that I did find really helpful too.
Cari - yip that's me!
And of course, I simply have to recommend my own books even if I do have to admit to being just a little itsy bitsy bit (ok, make that a lot) biased!
They share all the 'how tos' when it comes to freeing yourself from dieting. And to be honest, I really do think they are both great! I'd put them on my recommended reading list even if someone else had written them. I'm told they're humerous and fun and very practical too. And the fabulous SARK said she: "I looooove your book" and gave it a fabulous endorsement. You'll see what she said if you click on the Cari is biased button below.
And I'm busy with my third book to help parents keep their children out of food jail too. And wow is the research for this ever fascinating. It's due out Sept 2009 only though!

SARK
One of my most favorite authors has to be the amazing and wonderful SARK
If I had to be shipped off to a desert island, her great books would definitely be in the treasure chest I'd insist on taking with me. Not only are they full of wise and wonderful snippets, but they are fun, playful and colorful too.
She's one of those authors who write books that make you wish for a rainy day so you can curl up in a plump chair next to the fireside and lose yourself for many happy hours. And um... if I was on that desert island... well I'd be just as happy to have her as company sprawled under a palm tree. She's fabulous, she's fun - she's a must read!

Wayne Dyer

I first picked up Wayne Dyer's book titled 'Erroneous Zones' and there it sat on my bookshelf unopened for years. And you're not allowed to laugh--well ok, go on if you must--but the reason I didn't open it was that I thought it said 'errogenous zones' and my sexual zones didn't feel in need of any help.
But I'm a great believer that books find you when you're ready for them. And when I finally was ready, finding Wayne Dyer was a life-changing experience for me. I read his great books one after each other, hungrily.
He rescued me when my faith had been shattered and I was grieving and lost.
