Defining body wise
Being body-wise...what exactly is that? Bodywise is when you re-learn to listen to, and respond to your unique body needs. This is an ability that we are all born with, but lose over time.
How? Well we become conditioned to listen to the world around us instead of the world within us. Ours is a very exterior-focussed world.
We're taught to trust the 5 exterior senses for our feedback about our world... our 6th intuitive sense is downplayed as being unreliable.
So, every time I followed some or other eating-formula dictated by a so-called diet expert, even when my body was screaming with hunger - I would override my body wisdom and give my power to someone not living in my body, and who couldn't possibly know what my unique bodily needs were.
That's exactly how NOT to be bodywise! In fact, that's not wise at all.
When you're body-wise you'll live more joyfully in your body.

Our body has biological needs that, when we were born, we automatically responded to. Ask any mother who breastfed her children if she could overfeed them! Sadly much of this body wisdom has been eroded away by cultural 'knowledge.'
Mind over Fatter is a non diet program which gives you practical guidelines to enable you to return to being bodywise. It gives you the step-by-step tools to help you tune into, and respond to, your body wisdom again. You won't be learning anything new - you're just going to uncover what you've always known before it got drowned out with cultural BS. As one Mind over Fatter 'pilgrim' said: "It's not as if I've learned anything I didn't already know. It just all made such good common sense and each step resonated as being something sensible and logical. Mind over Fatter gave me permission to ditch dieting and live naturally." When you're bodywise, the choices you make are body-driven rather than culturally-driven. Let me give you an example. Culturally, plenty of us drive to eating more than our body needs because we are members of the 'clean plate club.' So we eat for plate size rather than tummy size. When we tune into bodily signals that tell us when we have had enough and then stop eating and leave what our body doesn't need....that's being bodywise. You're lead by your body and not some or other plan that is external to you and can't possibly cater to your unique needs.
Body wise is a Deep Truth
Surface truths are those that are forever changing. One day margarine is better for you than butter - next year it's all changed around. Blah! Blah!Deep Truths are those that are timeless - never changing. They don't change when you move from one cultural group to another, or if you had to live in different historical times. Being body wise is to be following a Deep Truth. Your culturally-infused mind may tell you one thing that isn't necessarily true, but you can ALWAYS rely on your body to tell you the truth.
For example...a surface truth might be that "when it's Noon, it's time to eat". But if you were brought up in a culture that had conditioned you that it was time to eat lunch at 10am -you'd 'get hungry' then.
The Deep Truth is that my body might tell me it needs fuel earlier or later depending on many factors like:
• when I last ate,
• how active I've been,
• what's happening biochemically and so on.
This is true for everyone, across all cultural groups and for all historical periods.
Be body wise and ditch diets
When you follow a body wise program like Mind over Fatter, your food and exercise choices aren't driven by a plan that says you eat x number of calories per day, nor are you driven by a plan that says you need to exercise for x number of minutes at x intensity per day.
Instead you flow with your body and let it determine your needs. So, one one day, your body may require more food, or more of a particular type of food than on another. On one day your body might want more exercise, or a different kind of exercise than on another day.
There's no rigidity, there's no sense of 'having to'. Instead there's a sense of curiosity - what is my body saying, what is it needing? There's a sense of going with the flow.
This is no one plan fits all program like diets that treats us as if our bodiese all have the same needs.
There is so much that is unique and different about each of us that to treat us as if we all need the
same little formula. As if one formula fits all.
is actually a bit of an insult. We like different flavors, and different foods. Depending on our activity levels - we'll have different energy requirements. When we're bodywise, we can respond to these requirements from the inside out. That results in
happy eating.
We have different lifestyles. If you're a single working Mom, your lifestyle and hence your eating and exercise plans my well need to be very different to that of a stay-at home married Mom.
Of course we all know that men are different to women (duh!) - and many weight loss clubs and schemes do have different plans for the different genders. But they still aren't based on body wisdom - they're just based on a formula for all.
Men can eat more than women - because their body composition is different, their metabolism is too. The genders have different biochemical needs too which is partly why women comfort eat more than men.
We have different beliefs and thoughts which means that what is going on in our bodies at a bio-chemical level is unique. What we are manifesting in our lives is unique, even if you're an identical twin.
We are so much more than just a formula! We are so much more than just a bunch of organs, tissue, bones and skin thrown together!
You can't simply bundle our uniqueness into a diet sheet that dictates you eat x for breakfast and y for lunch. Of course having said that though - I sure did my fair share of these kinds of diets!
Eating for your blood group - is that body wise?
At almost every talk or workshop I give, I seem to have at least one person asking me what I think about the Blood type diets or diets where they do expensive blood tests and then create a formula for you based on that. Here's what I always say. I don't know if the Blood group diets have any validity... but this is what I do know for absolute sure. If eating according to our Blood type is valid, then, when you're eating in a body wise way, your internal body wisdom would automatically lead you to eating according to your blood group. And then you wouldn't have to pay for blood tests or cut out certain food groups because they 'don't work for your particular blood type'. When you're bodywise, you'd land up making choices because they make your body feel good. You wouldn't be making them because you 'have to' because your blood type says you should. Now I don't know about you - but I really prefer making choices because I want to than because it's a 'should' that is dictated to me.
